Students in Canton attend schools in the Canton City School District. The Canton City School District has an enrollment of approximately 10,600 grade K-12 students yearly. Sixteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two high schools, in addition to a Montessori school, an Arts Academy, Digital Academy, and vocational schools all fall under the umbrella of this district. Private and parochial schools are also available in Canton.

For students and adults ready to make the jump to a college, university, or vocational school, there are many institutions of higher learning located within Canton and about 50 miles outside the city. Stark State College and Kent State University (Stark Campus) is located in nearby Jackson Township; Malone College, a private four year liberal arts college that offers Master?s degree programs is located in Canton; Walsh College is located in Plain Township in Canton; Mount Union College is about 20 miles away from Canton; and University of Akron is about 21 miles away in Akron.

While Canton holds its economic roots in agriculture with dairy farming and poultry production, other industries of employment include steel manufacturing (the Timken Company, a manufacturer of tapered roller bearings has a factory here in Canton), Canton has since diversified its industries to masonry, education, food manufacturing and services, and health care.

Home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Canton undoubtedly has plenty of community pride in being known as the city where the American Professional Football Association?predecessor to the NFL?was founded. A festival of the same name is held each summer and includes hot air balloon events, parades, and even a Sunday morning race.

There are about 60 city parks and facilities in Canton, each run by the Canton Park Commission. One of the more popular parks includes Stadium Park, which is located near the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Stadium Park features a playground with a softball complex, over 60 acres of nature and picnic areas, the Canton Garden Center, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Fountain, and a 1.5 mile walking track. The Waterworks Park is located south of the McKinley National Memorial and has picnic tables, grills and a play area for kids, while the Arboretum Park features a Disc Golf course. The course is open daily to the public. Skateboarders can head on over to the West Park Skateboard Park located on 9th and Schroyer Avenue. This popular park has everything a skater could ever dream of, including a four foot quarter-pipe, ledges, low banks, two inch launch ramps and boxes.

Since Canton is the Golf Capital of Ohio, golfers can practice their swing on the links at public courses at Meadowlake Golf and Swim, Inc., The Quarry Golf Club, Skyline Pines Golf Club, and the two Tom O? Shanter Golf Courses - Dales Course and Hills Course, to name a few. Paying for membership at private courses at country clubs such as Glenmoor and Oakwood may be worth it for the challenging greens. Golfers can also visit the famous Firestone Golf Course in the Firestone Country Club, a private club located in nearby Akron, Ohio.
